French Roulette
French Roulette is actually the original version of the game. The game was invented hundreds of years ago in France. After that, various changes were made and new forms of Roulette emerged. The true basis of the game starts with the French. It is the simplest version of the game.
The nice thing for beginning players is that the rules are a little less complicated. This makes the game seem less overwhelming to new roulette players. You can test the game for free on our site above. The explanation of the game can be found below.
The objective of French Roulette
The goal of French Roulette is quite simple. You have to go and predict which numbers are going to fall. The winning number is determined by a large wheel. On this wheel are the numbers 1 to 36.
Each number has its own color red or black. There is also one zero box with the color green. On the big Roulette table you will see all the boxes with the numbers in them.
The idea is to place your chips on the numbers you think will fall. After placing your chips, click the spin button and wait.
Low house edge
The casino, of course, wants to win every now and then to cover its costs. This is the reason why the casino has added a house edge. The house edge is the number 0. This is the only number on which you cannot bet, not even in terms of color prediction. If the zero falls, the profit and the stake is for the casino. This is actually the way for the casino to make a profit.
It sometimes happens that you come across the zero on the wheel twice. The casino then has two chances and a high house edge. In French Roulette you always see only one zero and thus there is a low house edge. In short, more chances of winning for the roulette player.
Inside bets at the roulette table
The game is all about betting. In roulette you have inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets are placed directly on the numbers on the roulette table. Outside bets are placed at the sides of the playing field. They have slightly higher winning chances. For this reason, you can win less money with these bets. To make sure you’re familiar with all of our betting options, we’ve listed the inside bets in French roulette:
Sixline
This is a block of 6 numbers. You place your chip on the middle line at the bottom. You bet on all 6 numbers with this wager. The win is 5 times the bet if one number falls.
Betting on one number
The simplest bet is to simply place one chip on one number. If this number falls you win 35 times your bet. It is the highest payout in the game.
Split between two numbers
Here you place the chip on the line between two numbers. Does one of the two numbers fall? Then you win 17 times your bet.
Street
If you look at the playing field, you will see streets of three numbers. By placing a chip on the left-hand line at the beginning of the street, you bet on the three numbers in the street. This pays out 11 times the bet.
Corner
This is a square that you can make with four numbers. On the middle line where the four numbers meet you can bet one chip. This pays 8 times the bet
Outside bets
There are also so-called outside bets. These lie somewhat along the edge of the betting possibilities with numbers. An outside bet often gives you a higher chance of winning, which can be as much as 50% because of the house edge. On the other hand, these bets pay out less money.
You can also know these bets as single odds. Examples are: red, black, even, odd et cetera. We have listed all the outside bets for you.
- Rouge/Noir – The familiar red/black bet is easy to recognize. There are no terms here, just the color red/black. The chance of you predicting it correctly is almost 50%. If you guess correctly you win 2 times your bet.
- Pair/Impair – This is even/even. This term is usually written in French on the field. The chance of winning is almost 50% and if you predict it correctly you win 2 times your bet.
- Dozens – You can bet on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dozen at the game. Do you predict it correctly? Then you win 3 times your bet.
- Columns – Just like with the dozens, it is possible to bet on columns. You can predict whether the number lies in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd column of your play area. This pays out three times your bet.
- 1 through 18 or 19 through 36 – Does the number fall into the 1 through 18 or 19 through 36 category? Your chance of winning is almost 50% and pays out twice your bet if the prediction is correct.
La Partage rule
La Partage is a rule that you will only find in French Roulette. It is a zero rule. When the zero falls in the game the bet of all players goes to the casino. It is the house edge of the casino.
But there is an exception in French roulette and that is the La Partage rule. This rule means that the players who have bet on a 50% chance get their bets back. So if you have predicted that Rouge will fall and the zero falls you get your bet back. With this rule the house edge for the casino is much lower.
En Prison rule
En Prison is actually a choice you get according to the La Partage rule. In En Prison, you can also choose not to get your bet back. Instead, you leave them on red for another round without it costing you a bet.
The En Prison rule in French Roulette gives the player just that little bit more advantage than, for example, in European Roulette or American Roulette.
How to play French Roulette?
Time needed: 3 minutes.
Roulette is something you have probably played at the casino. French roulette is very similar to European roulette, but there are a few rules that are slightly different. Below we will show you how to play French Roulette in the online casino.
- Look up the rules of the game
Although the rules of French Roulette are very similar to the other versions, it is still useful to learn the rules of the game. For example, the i button on your screen tells you how to bet and how much you can win.
- Choosing chips
After you have read through the rules of the French Roulette game, you must decide how much you want to bet. At the bottom of the screen you can choose from chips of €1, €5, or €10.
- Deployment
Maybe you’re used to playing European Roulette. But French Roulette is different. For example, in French Roulette there is the option to bet on zero. In that case, if zero is indeed placed, the house edge does not apply to your bet.
- Other bets
Of course you can also bet on French Roulette in the usual roulette ways. On the right you can see the different betting possibilities marked. You can bet on red, black, even, odd, high or low. You can also choose to bet on a specific range of numbers.
- Bet on color
One of the most popular betting methods in French roulette is betting on colour. Simply choose red or black and place your chips on it. You have almost a 50% chance of winning and if you bet €5 you’ll win €10.
- Click to start playing
To start playing French Roulette, click on the green button on the bottom right. The wheel will start spinning and you’ll soon see if you’ve won!
